Chicken Fillet Roll

The Chicken Fillet Roll

A humble, yet mighty feed – the Chicken Fillet Roll, also known as a Hot Chicken Baguette, is a delicious fresh demi-baguette filled with a fillet of chicken (plain, spicy, or southern-fried) served at casual eateries throughout Ireland.

Noted as an Irish obsession, the Chicken Fillet Roll is a top recommendation for visiting tourists. Celebrities looking for a local Irish culinary experience can be seen on social media posing on city streets with their hands clasped around a warm demi-baguette. Ex-pats return home to reminisce on days gone by over a proper cup of tea and a fresh Chicken Fillet Roll from the local deli.

While the star of the show is undoubtedly the chicken fillet, the choice of bread is crucial to the overall experience. The baguette must strike a balance between being sturdy enough to hold the fillings (we won’t get into the filling debate right now) and soft enough to compliment the chicken.

Where did it all start?

Our love for Chicken Fillet Rolls stems back so far that no one really knows where or when the first meeting of Chicken and French Baguette was.

Historians believe it was circa 1998, one reddit responder (boss091) shared their belief:

‘Legend has it a live chicken fell into the roll maker in the Cuisine de France factory thus a chicken roll was born. The workers danced in the streets for days, throwing any chicken they could find into the machine. To this day there is a pair of chicken feet from that first chicken that fell into the machine on display in the Dublin branch.’

We’ve certainly played our part in the glory that is the Hot Chicken Baguette!

Sadly we don’t keep chickens in our Dublin facility, so this reddit user isn’t quite accurate. But one thing is certain, the person who woke up one day and paired a freshly baked Cuisine de France demi baguette with breaded chicken has our nation’s gratitude.

Thanks
